The story of Indu Sarkar is based on the Emergency of 1975. This is a strong subject to portray on the big screen. Indu Sarkar is a story of a young girl (Kirti Kulhari) who becomes the voice of the nation during an emergency. Indu (Kirti Kulhari) is an orphan who never gets adopted because of the reason that she stammers. She has to face the same problem while finding a suitable match for her. But then, Navin (Tota Roy Chowdhury) found Indu (Kirti) attractive. They both fell in love and got married to each other. Government declared an emergency which suspends all the rights of the citizens. Navin is a government officer. He finds an opportunity to become richer in this crucial time. While his wife Kirti was unhappy with the emergency. She saw police killing innocent people. She also saw the two innocent kids lying on the road. She took them to home. But her husband told her to get them out of the house. Due to this, She even left her husband’s house. She also divorced him. Then she stood up and did protest against the government. The rest of the story revolves around the protest.
Indu Sarkar is a movie based on the most powerful subject. Kirti Kulhari is the scene-stealer. She did complete justice to her role as Indu. The powerful performance by her is commendable. The film comes with a disclaimer that says ‘Completely Fictional’. Even the Prime Minister who declared emergency is addressed as Mummy (Supriya Vinod) and her son is addressed as chief (Neil Nitin Mukesh) to avoid the controversies. The scenes of the protest by Indu are directed well. The songs of the movie are average. The performance of Anupam Kher is also good. He has done a good job as a supporting actor. We are impressed by the direction of Madhur Bhandarkar. He has always given the movies based on the strong subject. The movies like Chandni Bar and Page 3 were super hit. This one is most likely to be his next super hit as the story of the movie is very inspiring based on dark history. If you are interested in politics, then this movie is for you.
